Since the Golf 4 (1997-2003) , the GTI has evolved with more powerful engines and advanced technologies. The Golf 4 GTI offered a 1.8T engine with 150 to 180 hp , while the Golf 4 R32 offered a 3.2 V6 with 241 hp and all-wheel drive.

The Golf 5 (2003-2009) marks the return of the true GTI with a 2.0 TFSI of 200 hp , and the R32 goes up to 250 hp .

With the Golf 6 (2009-2012) , the GTI climbed to 211 hp and the Golf R replaced the R32 with a 2.0 TFSI of 270 hp and all-wheel drive.

The Golf 7 (2012-2020) pushes even further: GTI with 220 to 245 hp , and Golf R with 300 to 310 hp for performance even closer to a sports car.

Finally, the Golf 8 (2020 - today) modernizes everything: GTI with 245 hp , GTI Clubsport with 300 hp , and Golf R boosted to 320 hp , offering explosive performance and an even more aggressive design.
