Volkswagen Polo 5 (2009-2017) – Type 6R / 6C

Launched in 2009, this generation has gone through two distinct phases:

• Phase 1 (6R) – 2009-2014
  The Polo GTI of this phase was equipped with the 1.4 TSI engine combining turbo and supercharger, developing 180 hp, coupled with a DSG7 gearbox.

• Phase 2 (6C) – 2014-2017
  With the facelift, the GTI switches to a more reliable 1.8 TSI engine producing 192 hp, available with a manual or DSG6 transmission. The design evolves slightly with redesigned headlights and more aggressive bumpers.

Volkswagen Polo 6 (2017 - present) – Type AW

This generation marks an upgrade with more technology and a wider, more modern design.

• Phase 1 (2017-2021)
  The Polo GTI now features a 2.0 TSI engine producing 200 hp, available only with a DSG6 transmission. It benefits from a more dynamic chassis and a more refined interior, with upgraded equipment.

• Phase 2 (2021 Facelift - present)
  Volkswagen has further improved the model with a redesigned look: LED headlights, a light strip at the front, and a modernized interior. The engine has also been slightly upgraded to 207 hp, this time paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Is there a Polo R?

Volkswagen never mass-produced the Polo R. However, a limited-edition Polo R WRC Street was released in 2013. It was equipped with a 2.0 TSI engine producing 220 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. With only 2,500 units produced, it is now a rare and highly sought-after model.
